Bacteriostatic Water
30ml Vial — Sterile · Non-Pyrogenic
Description
Bacteriostatic Water is a sterile, non-pyrogenic water solution containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic preservative. Research Use Only (RUO). It is the standard diluent used in research laboratories for the reconstitution of lyophilized peptides, proteins and antibodies. The 30ml multi-dose vial provides sufficient volume for reconstituting multiple peptide vials, making it an essential supply item for any peptide research program. Up to 28-day in-use period with proper aseptic technique.
The 0.9% benzyl alcohol concentration serves a critical function: it inhibits the growth of bacteria and other microorganisms that could contaminate the solution after the vial septum has been punctured. Unlike sterile water for injection, which is intended for single-use only and must be discarded after the seal is broken, bacteriostatic water can be safely used multiple times over a period of up to 28 days after initial puncture. This multi-use capability is what makes it the preferred reconstitution medium in research settings where multiple peptide vials may need to be prepared over the course of several weeks.
The reconstitution process for lyophilized peptides using bacteriostatic water follows established laboratory protocols. Using a sterile syringe, the appropriate volume of bacteriostatic water is drawn from the vial and gently introduced along the wall of the peptide vial, allowing the water to flow down onto the lyophilized powder without direct force. The peptide vial should then be gently swirled — never shaken vigorously — to dissolve the powder completely. Most research peptides dissolve within 1-3 minutes using this technique. The resulting solution should be clear and free of visible particulates. If cloudiness or undissolved material persists, the vial should be allowed to sit at room temperature for several minutes before gently swirling again.
Compatibility with research peptides is broad. Bacteriostatic water is the recommended reconstitution medium for BPC-157, TB-500, CJC-1295, Ipamorelin, Epithalon, GHK-Cu, and virtually all other lyophilized research peptides. The benzyl alcohol preservative has been extensively tested for compatibility with peptide structures at the 0.9% concentration and does not cause degradation or denaturation of properly stored reconstituted peptide solutions. However, some particularly sensitive proteins or peptide fragments may require sterile water without preservative — researchers should consult specific product documentation when working with novel compounds.
Proper technique when accessing the vial is essential for maintaining sterility. Before each use, the rubber septum should be swabbed with 70% isopropyl alcohol and allowed to air dry completely. A new sterile syringe and needle should be used for each draw to prevent cross-contamination between different peptide preparations. The needle should be inserted at a slight angle through the septum center, and an equivalent volume of air should be injected into the vial before withdrawing liquid to prevent vacuum formation.
